Quests (U-X)
Quests are listed in alphabetical order and have been organized into subgroups to make locating them faster and easier. For each quest, I have provided a walk-through, information on the location to start the quest, and a summary of the money/items/Quest Points you will receive as a reward upon completion. Additionally, I have included a list of Items Required for each quest. This is especially helpful if you like to have your supplies on hand ahead of time, and it should prevent a lot of running back and forth. These lists do not, however, make mention of "quest-only" items such as those provided to you by NPCs during the course of the quest, as you do not have to worry about gathering these beforehand.
Please note that this section of the website DOES NOT include mini-game quests (Ant Hills, Sandcastle Moats, Paintings, etc.). These can be found instead under the Mini-Games heading on the navigation menu.

Winthrop's Tack Care Quiz
- Location: Witherton (Rider Isle)
- Items Required: none
-
Reward: 75 Quest Points, $50,000, optional +$2,000
Talk to Winthrop, the owner of the English Tack Workshop on in Witherton and ask him about the saddle he's oiling. He will tell you about the importance of tack maintenance and will ask if you want to take a quiz on the subject. Pay him the $1,000 he requires for participation and then answer his questions as follows:
Note: Winthrop has some good information about tack care, but it makes his questions a bit lengthy. I've shortened many of them here for conciseness' sake. If you want to learn a bit more, make sure to read through his entire dialogue as you complete the challenge.
Q: Which of these is not a reason to clean your tack?
A: All of those are good reasons!
Q: Which of these sentences most accurately describes the difference between grain and calf leather?
A: Grain leather is more durable but takes some time to break in, whereas calf is buttery soft and breaks in quickly.
Q: Which of the following products is used to clean - not to seal or condition - leather tack?
A: Castile soap
Q: While you're cleaning, you may find some dark, greasy splotches of dirt that stick to the leather, especially on the underside where the leather touches the horse. What are these called?
A: Jockeys
Q: Say you got caught in a downpour. What's the best way to take care of your soaked tack?
A: Leave it alone to dry on its own until it's just barely damp, then clean it and oil if needed.
Q: This type of leather conditioner used to get a bad rap for "rotting the stitching," but in reality, it does no such thing. It's derived from certain bones of cattle.
A: Neatsfoot oil
Q: You've just taken your tack out of storage and it's got little fuzzy green spores all over it. What do you do to get rid of the mold?
A: Use white vinegar to kill the spores, then clean as usual.
Q: How would you keep a sheepskin pad clean?
A: Let them dry, then brush gently. When they get dirty, hand or machine wash with a specially formulated soap.
Q: Traditionally, the Western cinch or cincha was made of either horsehair or mohair. You can still find these today. What's the best way to take care of these natural materials?
A: Brush off any caked dirt or sweat after each ride, and hand wash with cold water when needed.
Q: When you evaluate a saddle before purchase - especially if it's new - you want to check to make sure that the tree isn't compromised. How do you do this?
A: Holding the pommel, gently flex the cantle back to you. If a number of wrinkles appear in the leather seat, or if it creaks, that's a sign of a possibly broken tree.
You are technically finished with the quest after answering the above questions, but Winthrop will offer you a chance to win an additional $2,000 if you can correctly answer his bonus question:
Q: Some saddles have a special type of material on their underside instead of leather; it's a type of twill called serge. How would you take care of this material?
A: Similar to suede, you'd brush it off with a soft brush and clean with a damp cloth when necessary.
Witherton Jones and the Statues of the Tumetai
- Location: Tropicton Village (Jungle Isle)
- Items Required: none
-
Reward: 400 Quest Points, $125,000
Find Witherton Jones inside his hut in Tropicton Village, which lies north of the town of Tropicton proper. Ask him about his latest adventure, and he will tell you that he is trying to gain access to the lost city of Tumetai, the gates of which can only be opened with the correct statue. He will also inform you that the Tumetai tribespeople guard their statues very carefully, only giving them to those who can solve their puzzles. Offer to give it a try, and then head south, past the town of Tropicton and into the large jungle on the southern half of the isle. You will need to make your way to the large, sandy clearing just west of the jungle's center. A Telescope will come in very handy if you have one, otherwise you can check this map of Jungle Isle for the easiest path in.
Once you have reached the Tumetai village, you will need to speak to each of the five tribespeople in their huts. Each person will ask you three questions about the particular statue they are guarding: what is it made of? what animal is it? and what element does it represent? Reference the list provided below and answer accordingly.
Azmaguru - gold, tarantula, spirit
Guma-Guma - emerald, anaconda, fire
Texcatlypoca - amethyst, sloth, earth
Suhai - topaz, egg, air
Engolo-mbe - silver, gorilla, water
Return to Witherton Jones once you have all five statues in your possession. He will read you the final riddle needed to figure out which statue will open the gates to the lost city. Choose the gorilla statue, and Witherton Jones will very richly reward you for all of your help.
Wu Kung and the Grand Master
*You must first complete the quest, Wu Kung and the Masters*
- Location: Jungle Isle
- Items Required: -
-
Reward: 100 Quest Points, $00,000

Wu Kung and the Masters
- Location: Jungle Isle
- Items Required: Grasshopper (x12)
-
Reward: 300 Quest Points, Diamond Necklace, Topaz Necklace
To start the quest, speak to Wu Kung on Jungle Isle. You will find him in the northwesternmost corner of the clearing containing Jungle Temple #10 (he is mapable in a Library if you have trouble locating him). Listen to Wu Kung's story about his fellow martial artists and the five sectioned staff
given to them by their master. He will tell you that the five sections of the staff must be reunited and will ask for your help relocating his piece.
Travel south from Wu Kung until you reach the southernmost tip of Jungle Isle, and then follow the coast east until you run across a small village of five huts. Just northeast of this village you will find a small tunnel through a dense line of trees as shown to the left. You will need to give the password - "streams" - to pass through into the clearing beyond. Past this, you will find a sequence of two more tunnels - the passwords are "feast" and "flipped," respectively.
In the final clearing, you will find Wu Kung's section of the staff by using your binoculars in the spot indicated to the right (beware the Venus Flytraps while you're here - they will snatch a small amount of money from you if you stand directly adjacent to them, so avoid them as much as possible).
Once you've returned the first staff piece to Wu Kung, you will next have to speak with each of the other Kung-Fu Masters in turn. Unfortunately, unlike Wu Kung, the remaining four Masters can not be mapped, so use the images below to help locate them if you get stuck.
Start by finding Master Lau in the clearing containing Jungle Temple #1. Lau will ask you to prove your worth by finding his section of the staff on your own. You will find the staff piece be using your Shovel to dig beneath the large boulder to the right of Jungle Temple #5. Show it to Lau, who will tell you to seek out Master Hoa on Bird Isle.

Hoa is located to the right of a willow tree in Soaring Meadows, directly beneath Harmony's house. He seems to have misplaced his section of the staff, which you will find by using your binoculars beneath the willow tree outside Daf's cottage in Wington. Hoa will now send you to the Sand Isles to seek out Master Shua.

Master Shua is directly above Pyramid #6 on the first Sand Isle. He will ask you to solve three riddles in order to earn his section of the staff. Answer Shua's questions as follows:
Q: How much is four score and seven?
A: 87
Q: Five people crowd together under an umbrella, but no one gets wet. How can this be?
A: It's not raining.
Q: Mice are famous for multiplying rapidly. This breed of mouse gives birth once a month, having 12 babies each time. Baby mice mature and can give birth after 2 months. You bought one of these cute baby mice 10 months ago, how many mice do you now have?
A: 1
The last Kung-Fu Master you will need to find is Master Tang, who can be found in the small forest on the northwestern "petal" of Flower Isle. Tang will ask for 12 grasshoppers in exchange for telling you the location of his section of the staff. Travel to the small forest clearing to the right of Petal Meadows and use your Magnifying Glass to the right of the southernmost red rose.

Finally, you can return all four pieces of the staff to Wu Kung in order to complete the quest.
